We recently helped some folks out who needed to upload a few files over the internet. They had never uploaded files to an FTP site before so we educated them on how to do it.

File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is the most used protocol after HTTP and it is tremendously helpful for uploading and downloading files from the internet. There are many free and shareware FTP clients available and one has only to do a search to find them. But here is an easy list below:

Filezilla – A very stable solution. Open Source (GNU/GPL) FTP client for Windows, Mac OS X and GNU/Linux.

FireFTP – The Free FTP Client for Firefox. Simple, easy solution.

WinSCP – Try this free open source SFTP and FTP client for Windows platform

Cyberduck – a good open source FTP client which is for the Mac

Classic FTP – For both Windows and Mac, supports FTP, FTPS, SFTP protocols

Fetch - A dependable FTP solution for the Mac, supports FTP and SFTP
